Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has joined Manchester United on a six-month loan deal from Chinese Super League side, Shanghai Shenhua.
The deal for the 30-year-old Nigerian was sealed before the transfer deadline on Friday night as the Premier League side seemed desperate to draft in a last-minute striker to help with the absence of the injured Marcus Rashford.
Ighalo, who has less than two years left on his £300,000-a-week deal at Shanghai, took a 50% pay cut with United agreeing to pay him £150,000-a-week for the remainder of this season.
Details of the deal also revealed that there will be a £5million loan fee, with both clubs set to review the situation at the end of the season in view of a permanent deal.
United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, expressed delight with his new inclusion.
He said, “Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different type of centre-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us.
“A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here.”
Ighalo scored 33 goals in 82 games for Watford in the English top-flight before moving to Changchun Yatai in 2017.
After two seasons with the struggling Yatai, he transferred to Shenhua and netted 10 goals in 19 appearances.
