The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr Modibbo Kawu, has been suspended with immediate effect by President Muhammadu Buhari.
It would be recalled that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had a few months ago urged the Federal Government to suspend Kawu, and 32 other public officers/civil servants who were being investigated for corruption allegations.
According to a source at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), who spoke exclusively to Premium Times, the NBC DG was issued a letter of suspension on Thursday, pending the conclusion of investigations into the allegations against him.
It was also gathered that Mr Armstrong Idachaba, the present Director, Broadcast Monitoring of the commission was handed a letter to proceed as the acting DG of the NBC.
The ICPC, which had in May 2019 arraigned Kawu and two others, Dipo Onifade and Lucky Omoluwa, over an alleged N2.5 billion fraud, had noted that it was prosecuting the DG for “using his position to confer corruption advantage.”
