Covid-19: FG urges infected persons to come out of hiding as cases rise to 40

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday night confirmed four new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, bringing the total number of infections to 40.

According to the agency, three of the cases were recorded in Lagos and one in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

With the new development, no fewer than 10 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the country on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, lamented that some persons who had contracted the virus were yet to present themselves to the NCDC for treatment.

The minister further emphasized the need for the Federal Government to act fast in containing the spread of the disease in order not to replicate the alarming rate of infections being experienced in China and Italy.

Ehanire said, “If we do not act fast, we could be heading in something dangerous like that (in China and Italy). They now transmit among themselves.

“We have to get those who have been infected now. If we don’t, it may be a serious burden in the system. I am sure some are hiding, they will not report for whatever reason. Nobody will be arrested or asked to pay anything.

“Those who are returning now are Nigerians. With the closure of our airports, we will reduce inflow of new cases and deal with the ones we already have.”
