The Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki and her counterpart in the Information and Culture Ministry, Alhaji Lai Mohammed have prevailed on other cabinet ministers to donate 50 per cent of their March salaries to support the Federal Government’s efforts in combatting the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the information minister, who noted that the donation was coordinated by Sen. Saraki.
The statement quoted the Minister of State for Transport to have stated that the gesture was borne out of solidarity to efforts by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in tackling the escalating outbreak of the deadly virus.
It added that, “This global virus outbreak will require nations, continents and smaller communities to pull together to contribute their resources and support one another. This will facilitate an early resolution of the problem.”
Alhaji Mohammed further noted that all 43 ministers extolled the president’s leadership role in the ongoing fight against the pandemic.
Nigeria has so far recorded 81 confirmed Covid-19 cases, after a total of 16 new infections were detected on Friday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
