Popular actress, Funke Akindele has come under fire for hosting a party at her Lagos residence, despite the ban on social gatherings in the state to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Akindele, who is an ambassador for Dettol, has featured in TV commercials urging Nigerians to observe social distancing and hygiene.
However, the house party which held on Saturday in commemoration of her husband’s birthday, had in attendance many celebrities including controversial singer, Naira Marley.
In a video posted on social media by her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, the guests were seen grooving to one of Naira Marley’s songs ‘Ma fo’.
Describing the act as a criminal offence, thousands of Nigerians on social media called for the arrest of the actress as well as her husband and the prominent guests.
Reacting, Mrs Akindele disclosed that everyone at the party had been together for weeks in the neighborhood before the lockdown.
According to her, a movie project she was currently working on was meant to be filmed before the lockdown, and some of the guests had already been camped in the estate.
