The Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-il-Fitr celebration.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday afternoon by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
The Minister congratulated the Muslim faithful for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, while urging them “to replicate the life of kindness, love, tolerance, peace and good neighbourliness as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).”
Expressing worry over the spate of ethnic conflicts that has resurfaced in some parts of Northern Nigeria, Aregbesola enjoined Nigerians to see themselves as a single entity and learn to tolerate one another despite their ethnic and religious differences.
The interior minister further noted that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was fully committed to the fight against Covid-19 as he urged Muslims to adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines and regulations outlined by the government.
He also commended the efforts of security agencies in tackling insurgency in the North East.
