The immediate past Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki has donated the sum of N5 million to no fewer than 500 youth artisans in Kwara State.
According to a statement by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Mr Abdulqadir Abdulganiyu, the gesture was aimed at cushioning the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the artisans who received N10,000 each.
Abdulganiyu further disclosed that the ex-Senate President had a few days ago, also disbursed N10,000 each to a total of 2,500 economically vulnerable persons across the state.
He added, “This intervention is different from the palliative materials including food items, hand sanitizer and gloves Saraki had earlier distributed to less privileged members of the society, aimed at cushioning the impacts of the lockdown that was earlier imposed by the state government to curb the spread of COVID-19.
“Saraki, had in his usual magnanimity and concern for the less privileged, last week directed the payment of the stipend into personal accounts of the beneficiaries, to alleviate the hardship they are experiencing.
“Beneficiaries of the latest intervention by Saraki, are mostly artisans whose sources of living have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.
“The beneficiaries, who are between the ages of 18 and 35 were drawn from the 16 local government areas of Kwara State.”
