President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock over the brutal killing of 81 villagers by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Tuesday in Fanduma Koloram community, Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
The president, in a statement late Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, condoled with the families of the victims while directing the military to sustain their recent string of successes against the terrorists, and rescue all those kidnapped as well as the large number of cattle rustled.
Buhari, who further noted that he was expecting a detailed briefing by the Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum on the outcome of his visit to the affected communities, added that the primordial nature of the killings was particularly shocking because it happened not long after the Ramadan and Eid celebration.
Meanwhile, one of the survivors narrated to Governor Zulum that the insurgents had pretended to be Islamic religious crusaders before unleashing mayhem on residents of the community.
“The insurgents disguised as if they had come to enlighten the community, disarmed the herders and shot all of them, including the underaged, and even their animals”, he said.
He also stated that apart from the 81 persons killed, 13 were injured, while seven others were abducted in the attack.
