The minister of youth and sports development, Mr. Sunday Dare Wednesday announced the approval of November 1 as a National Youth Day in Nigeria.
Making the announcement via the micro blogging site, Twitter, the minister said, “Today, President Buhari in Council approved November 1st every year as the National Youth Day to celebrate, draw attention to and find solutions to the issues that affect the Youth. Mr. President as again demonstrated his commitment to supporting youth focused policies.”
It’s not however clear whether the newly announced National Youth Day will be a public holiday.
Meanwhile, this would be the second time in recent time that President Muhammmadu Buhari will be displaying a rare but unprecedented commitment to issues concerning the welfare and development of Nigerian youths. Recently, he approved the takeoff of the National Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), a 75 billion naira loan arrangements for young Nigerians with creative business ideas.
