Supporters of immediate past Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki Saturday trooped out in large numbers to welcome him back to Ilorin as he visits the city for the first time since the 2019 elections.
Since his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost every contestable posts in the last election, Saraki had stayed away from the State, insisting the new APC government needs to be given a chance to fulfil its election promises to the people.
But on Saturday, Saraki returned to Ilorin to the warm embrace of a tumultuous crowd who welcomed him with excitement.
Saraki said he was in town to celebrate the 8th anniversary of his dad, Senator Olusola Saraki and also the 25th anniversary of the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari.
The huge crowd first received the former senate president at the Ilorin International Airport, after which the people formed a guard of honour for Saraki along the route to the Emir’s palace.
From the Emir’s palace, he left to join prayers for his dad at the family’s GRA residence. He was joined at the prayer session by his sister, Senator Rukayyat Gbemisola Saraki who currently serves as Minister of State for transportation.
The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir led the prayers.
Although Dr. Saraki did not grant interviews to journalists, he however indicated that his visits to Ilorin would become more frequent when the season for politicking commences.
