2027: PDP Aims to Produce More State Governors Despite Potential Defections

By Nafiu Toyin Abdulqadri.

Rumors are swirling that some governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to sources, these governors have been visiting President Bola Tinubu in Lagos or inviting him to commission projects in their states, sparking speculation about their intentions.

The governors in question include Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who recently expressed support for President Tinubu’s administration, and Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who received praise from Tinubu for his leadership style. Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State also paid a visit to President Tinubu over the holidays.

However, the PDP is pushing back against these rumors, with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) stating that they expect to produce more governors in 2027. The NWC cited widespread disenchantment with the current administration and economic hardship as reasons for their optimism.

In a bold statement, the PDP’s National Treasurer, Alhaji Ahmed Yayare, declared that the party is the only viable opposition to the APC and that if they don’t take over leadership, it could spell the end of democracy in Nigeria.
