Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is refusing to accept his removal from office, insisting that he remains the rightful speaker based on constitutional provisions. Obasa made this declaration during a welcome event organized by his supporters in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
You will recall this medium reported that Obasa’s colleagues in the House removed him over allegations of gross misconduct and financial mismanagement. However, Obasa argues that the process didn’t follow constitutional procedures and that he would only accept his removal if it’s done in accordance with the constitution.
In a bold statement, Obasa said, “I was Speaker for 10 years, if I’m no longer wanted, from Allah we come and to him, we shall return but you cannot impeach a speaker with a fake mace.” This statement highlights his defiance and determination to cling to his position.
It’s worth noting that Obasa’s removal comes after a decade-long tenure as Speaker, during which he faced several allegations of corruption and misconduct. The development has sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting Obasa’s stance and others criticizing his refusal to accept his removal.
