The Progressive Forum (TPF), a leading group within the All Progressives Congress, APC has expressed confidence that the newly elected leadership of the National Assembly possess the capacity to hold together the legislative arm of government.
In a statement congratulating Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio and Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas over their emergence as Senate President and Speaker respectively, TPF described their election as cheerful.
The group further noted its excitement with the competitive nature of the process leading to the election of the new National Assembly leadership; while also commending the tenacity of other aspirants for their steadfastness.
While encouraging all members of the assembly to accept the outcome, TPF expressed the belief that the election “has been a fair representation of the wishes and desire of the majority of the members.”
A part of the statement reads, “Going by their track records as unifiers and team players, TPF is optimistic that both Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas would deploy their immense talent and maturity to hold together the National Assembly and enlist its backing towards the realization of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Indeed, the outcome of today’s election of the leadership of the National Assembly is an indication of Nigeria’s maturing democracy; and TPF holds the confidence that the new leadership would work to justify the mandate of their colleagues and lead the quest by the APC to deliver progressive governance to Nigerians.
“While we wish the new National Assembly leadership a hitch free and successful tenure; we encourage them to rally together all members and build a bipartisan consensus around issues of peace, unity, stability, progress and development of the country in line with the agenda of Mr. President.”
