Dr. Bukola Saraki, the President of Nigerian Senate has lost his widely reported appointment as Ambassador-at-large of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC). INSIDER learnt that the appointment was cancelled due to the inability of Saraki to meet up with the required protocols for the office.
In a letter issued in Abuja earlier today (Thursday), a copy of which was sighted by this medium, the head of the Nigerian Office of IHRC, Dr. Friday Sani, explained that the decision to cancel the appointment became inevitable due to the lukewarm attitude of Dr. Saraki, despite the constant engagement with officials of the International agency.
Before finally deciding to terminate the appointment, Sani explained that the Senate President was notified of the impeding action by the Nigerian Central Office and Africa of International Human Rights Commission(IHRC).
A part of the letter reads, “In view of recent event towards perfection of the intended decoration and the overall interest of the organization in Africa and the world, we hereby withdraw your nomination as Ambassador-at-large.”
The IHRC said it regrets the withdrawal of nomination, but emphasized that the action was taken in line with the Agency’s standard protocols.
The letter also added that the International Human Rights Commission’s World Secretary-General, Mr. Rafal Marcin Wasik has been notified of the new development.
