The planned working visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Imo and Kwara States this week may have been postponed. This was as a result of the president’s decision to extend his stay in Saudi Arabia where he had gone for the Muslim lesser hajj (umrah).
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Imo State governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, the state government announced the rescheduling of the visit, promising to make a new date public the moment the president is back in the country.
A part of the statement reads, “We humbly wish to inform the general public and IMO people in particular that His Excellency, the president and Commander -in- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, has not returned from Saudi Arabia where he is at the moment with other Muslims from all parts of the world on pilgrimage.
” Against the backdrop of this development, the scheduled visit of the president to Imo State for the commissioning of some key projects of Governor Rochas Okorocha on Tuesday May 21, 2019 (today) has been postponed “.
Although there is yet to be an official announcement on the president’s visit to Kwara by the government of the state, it’s assumed that the extended stay of President Buhari in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would equally affect his visit to the state which insiders in government said should have come up this week.
