An association in Kwara State known as AA Support Group, has called for the balkanization of Ifelodun local government area of the state.
According to the leader of the group, Mohammed Lawal, splitting the council became necessary in order to facilitate development in the area.
Lawal, who spoke during a special prayer organised for the State Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, explained that Ifelodun local government hasn’t been disintegrated since the Local Government Reform of 1976, which he claimed has adversely affected the development of the area.
He urged the governor to yield to the request of the people by creating a new local government area or Local Council Development Area.
Lawal remarked on the objectives of the group, one of which he noted was “to identify where government attention is needed in the area of infrastructure and socio-economic development in Ifelodun Local Government Area and recommend solutions to the governor.”
In his response, the Kwara State Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, who hails from Ifelodun, assured his constituents through his representative at the occasion, Hassan Garba that the state would be transformed by the new administration.
The Head of Department, Arabic Language, Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Alhaji Kamaldeen Sofihullahi, who led the Islamic prayer, charged the governor to improve the fortunes of the state.
Alh. Sofihullahi stressed that Kwarans would not entertain excuses because the state had suffered age-long decline in development.
