FG Appoints Soyinka as Patron of World Orisa Congress

The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed renowned Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, as Patron of the World Orisa Congress (WOOCON).

This development was confirmed in a statement made available to newsmen through the Media Assistant to Executive Secretary, NICO, Caleb Nor.

According to Caleb, the appointment is a testament to Soyinka’s lifelong dedication to promoting the cultural identity of the Yoruba people.

As a global intellectual giant, Soyinka has been a vocal advocate for the preservation and celebration of Yoruba culture. His acceptance of this role is a significant indication of his commitment to repositioning the concept of Orisa globally.

Soyinka will be joined by other esteemed individuals, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Professor Wande Abimbola, a renowned expert in Ifa Divination, who has also been appointed as Patron.

The World Orisa Congress aims to promote the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Yoruba people, which is estimated to be connected to over 450 million people worldwide.
