Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has urged the Federal Government to instruct the contractors handling the channelisation of the Asa River in the state to return back to site.
The governor, who visited Mubo community in Ilorin where heavy downpour on Wednesday evening was said to have claimed a lady identified as Adeyemi Lateefah, lamented that the drainage was badly executed, therefore was unable to prevent flooding in the area
“This (channelisation) was long awarded. They didn’t execute it properly. We have written them a letter that they should come and finish it. What they did is too narrow”, he said.
The heavy downpour on Wednesday had caused severe flooding in Mubo community, leaving many families displaced.
Ms. Lateefah was reported to have slipped into the flooded drainage while going to the Maraba motor park.
Governor Abdulrazaq sympathized with her family, noting that a search team has been deployed to find her.
The governor also directed the Kwara State Ministries of Works and Transport and Environment and Forestry to hurriedly drain the flooded area.
As at press time, dozens of worshippers were still trapped at a mega church in the area as a result of the flooding.
