The Katsina State Government has taken a tough stance on crime in the state. In a bid to tackle the flaming insecurity recorded recently in the state, the State Governor Aminu Masari has introduced the death penalty for kidnappers and cattle rustlers.
Governor Masari also signed the amended Penal Code into law, introducing life imprisonment for rape related offences.
Speaking to newsmen in Katsina yesterday, the governor explained that the government had to promulgate the tough regulations because of the unrest facing the state.
He expressed optimism that the amended laws will deter criminal elements with inordinate intentions from propagating such crimes in the state.
“Cattle rustling and kidnapping are now capital offences which attract the death penalty. The offence of rape carries a penalty of life sentence apart from fines and compensation to the victim” he said.
