The Kwara State Stadium Complex was abuzz yesterday 7th of July 2024 with excitement and joy as the Muslim community in the State gathered to celebrate the beginning of the new Islamic year, 1st Muharram 1446AH.

The National Chairman of Hijrah Islamic organization, Prof Badmas Olanrewaju Yusuf, in his welcome address, urged governments to prioritize people-oriented policies over political or international interests. Prof Yusuf emphasized that the country faces numerous challenges, including economic struggles such as inflation, unemployment, currency fluctuations, and a weakened healthcare system.

“Instead of focusing on legalizing same-sex marriage, which is considered ungodly and barbaric in Islamic teachings, governments should prioritize policies that promote gender equality, inclusive economic growth, and social safety nets to reduce inequality and empower women and marginalized groups through education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.”

In his address, represented by his Senior Adviser and Counselor, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq encouraged Nigerians, particularly Muslim faithful, to embrace and apply the teachings of Hijrah in their daily lives and interactions with both Muslims and non-Muslims, as demonstrated by the exemplary leadership of Prophet Muhammad.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to listening to the public and adapting policies to meet their needs. He acknowledged that government decisions may seem harsh but are ultimately made with the greater good in mind. He appealed to the public to continue supporting his administration and that of the President, and encouraged individuals to strive to avoid causing harm to one another in their daily interactions, promoting a spirit of unity and harmony.
