Out of favor Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has been placed on standby, pending further directive from the CAF Medical Committee on Samuel Kalu who collapsed during training yesterday.
Although, Kalu is back in the team’s hotel after he was stabilized and confirmed “okay”, his participation at the 2019 African Cup of Nations is in doubt.
According to the spokesperson of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ademola Olajire, the winger suffered from dehydration as a result of the hot weather condition in Egypt .
He said, “I have been told Samuel Kalu has been stabilized.
“He was taken to hospital for tests and he has been certified okay. He was dehydrated, they said.
“They told him he needs to be taking enough fluids.”
The temperature in Egypt is reported to be between 35 and 38 degrees, which prompted the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to initiate water breaks during matches at the tournament.
It remains unclear whether Kalu would continue with the squad, as Kelechi Iheanacho has been contacted and is on standby to join the team.
