A former Senator who represented Osun West in the 8th Assembly, Professor Sola Adeyeye has pledged financial support to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in his bid to sue slanderers.
This was revealed by the Political Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Babafemi Ojudu.
Ojudu, who revealed that the management of Vanguard Newspaper which published a story linking the Vice President to a purported N90 billion election fund allegedly released by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), also said the publication expressed regret for what he described as a “lapse in editorial judgement.”
Quoting Senator Adeyeye, the presidential adviser revealed that the former Senator requested him to inform the Vice President that he was ready to contribute to “bearing the financial cost of the court case.”
It would be recalled that a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Comrade Timi Frank, had alleged that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, took a whooping sum of N90 billion to prosecute the 2019 election in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South West.
It was on the basis of this revelation that the Vanguard Newspapers published its story. Professor Osinbajo had, through his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, threatened to sue Vanguard Newspaper if it failed to retract the news within 24 hours and offer a public apology.
However, in response to Osinbajo’s threat of instituting legal action against Vanguard, Comrade Frank challenged the Vice President to sue him instead of threatening media houses.
