…Kwara Attorney General moves to take over prosecution

An Ilorin-based entrepreneur and ManagingDirector of CTF Exhibition, Islamiyat Oyin Olodo was on Friday arraigned in an Ilorin Magistrate Court on a four-count charge of cheating, mischief, defamation of character and criminal intimidation, all of which are in contravention of the Penal Code.

Barrister Aishat Temim and Barrister Musa Bello Abdulkabeer who are the prosecuting counsels mentioned their appearances before the presiding judge, Magistrate Ibrahim Muhammed; while the defense counsel, Barrister Ayomide Ishola also announced his appearance and informed the court of the willingness of Attorney General of Kwara State, Salman Jawondo (SAN) to take over the prosecution.

The representative of the AG, Barrister Ayoola Idowu Akande rose and announced his appearance on behalf of the Attorney General of the state.

Barrister Temim expressed shock as to why the Attorney General would have interest in the case, even though he admitted the constitution empowered him to do so.

The presiding judge, Magistrate Ibrahim Muhammed granted the approval of the Attorney General to take over the prosecution and adjourned the matter for proper mentioning to the 23rd of March, 2022.

Meanwhile, a senior Lawyer who prefers anonymity told INSIDER NG that the Attorney General’s attempt to take over the prosecution is suspicious because the matter was barely getting started, although he said that was without prejudice to his Constitutional powers to do so. More lawyers who spoke to this medium within the court premises also wondered what prompted the AG to signify interest in the ‘accused person.’
