The late renowned Islamic cleric, Shaykh Ibrahim Abdullahi Alabi Olohungbebe was among the celebrated Ilorin indigenes captured in a compendium that was yesterday presented to the public at a well attended event which held at the Banquet Hall, Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin.
Written by the Secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Mallam Abubakar Imam, the book titled “Ilorin Emirate Frontliners” chronicled individuals have recorded outstanding personal achievements.
Shaykh Olohungbebe, who was an outstanding Islamic scholar during his lifetime, was reputed for his manifest contributions to the propagation of Islamic religion, and for leaving an impressive legacy as one of the greatest ambassadors of Ilorin Emirate; especially in the area of Islamic scholarship.
A well travelled scholar, Shaykh Olohungbebe delivered outstanding lectures on the international stage during his lifetime, especially in Countries such as United Kingdom, Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, Togo, Gambia, Morocco, among others. This was apart from his breathtaking performance at a world conference in 1984 where he led other Sufi leaders on the invitation of the Iranian government, during which he delivered a thought-provoking lecture. This was when the Iran-Iraqi war was at its peak.
A full fledged Ilorin man on both his father’s and mother’s sides; Shaykh Olohungbebe was born into the Abidogun family, off Pakata road, Ilorin, in 1925. His father was Shaykh Abdullahi Abdulbaki, a renowned Islamic scholar, while his mother, Hafsah Abdullahi hailed from Agbarere, Ilorin.
