In a surprising move, Alh Ibrahim Labaika, a popular Islamic singer, has tendered his resignation as Special Assistant on Artiste to Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Labaika’s decision, as stated in his resignation letter, stems from his inability to reconcile drawing a salary from public funds without a clear role or responsibilities.
Labaika expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to serve in the position for over a year and a half. However, he lamented that during his tenure, he was not assigned any specific tasks or duties, leading to a sense of unfulfillment and guilt.
In his words, Labaika stated that he cannot in good conscience continue to receive a salary without contributing meaningfully to the state’s artistic development or governance. He has therefore opted to step down from his position, effective immediately.
Labaika’s resignation has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising his integrity and others expressing disappointment at his departure. The Kwara State Government has yet to officially comment on the resignation or announce a replacement for the position.
