Kwara boxers have emerged champions of the interstate boxing tournament which rounded off today at the Indoor Sports Hall, Ilorin.
The athletes who enjoyed an impressive run at the competition, won six of the 10 bouts in the final of the three-day tournament.
Balogun Qudos set the ball rolling for the Kwarans with a victory over Tobi Rafiu of Oyo State in the 48kg, while Ahmed Suleiman also defeated his Oyo counterpart, Kehinde Akanmu in the 52kg.
Kwara’s duo of Saheed Jamiyu and Ishola Nurudeen earned victories over Rasheed Adeniran of Oyo and Sanmi Sunday of Ekiti in the 56kg and 60kg respectively.
Kwara dominated the female bouts as Fausiyat Tijani got a split victory over Seun Omowaye of Ekiti while Risika Abdulrazaq defeated Olamide Oluwamuyide of Oyo State.
The chairman of the Kwara Boxing Association, Ahmed Rufai, thanked the state government for providing the enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state, adding that the aim of the competition was to bring boxing closer to the youth.
He also revealed that “the association is bringing Gotv to Kwara at the end of August to further aid boxing development in state.”
