The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara Command, has revealed that Kwara State recorded 159 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) over the past year. The state command made this known in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the Gender Unit of the NSCDC, has made significant progress in combating GBV and protecting vulnerable individuals in the state.
The reported cases include:
– 76 cases of domestic violence, physical assault, and intimidation
– 58 cases of abandonment of responsibility
– 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape
– 12 cases of threats to life
– 2 cases of missing children
“The NSCDC’s initiatives in Kwara State underscore the persistent challenge of safeguarding vulnerable populations, especially women and children, from violence and exploitation. The latest statistics underscore the imperative for sustained vigilance and proactive measures to combat and respond to GBV in the state.”
Furthermore, the command called on the public to collaborate with the Corps by sharing valuable information to aid in crime prevention and enforcement efforts, as stated in the release.
