Kwara State University (KWASU) has begun the strict implementation of its dress code and ethics policy, with penalties in place for unethical behaviors, cohabiting male-female students and dress code violations.
The university’s administration has outlined a list of offenses, categorized into unethical behaviors and dress code violations, which will attract various levels of sanctions.
Unethical behaviors include possession or consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs, membership of unregistered associations, sexual assault, cyber crimes, and physical and verbal assault, among others.
Dress code violations include failure to wear identification cards on campus, wearing skimpy or revealing clothes, indecent dressing, and unkempt appearances. Male students are also prohibited from having piercings, braiding their hair, or growing long nails, while female students are not allowed to have coloured braids or hair extensions that go beyond the neck region.
The sanctions for offending students range from seizure of identification cards, payment of fines, suspension, and expulsion, depending on the severity of the offense.
