KWHA Speaker Graces ASKOMP Media Parley, Says Agitation For Power Shift To Kwara North Premature

Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu has urged politicians in the State to exercise restraint and allow the incumbent government of Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq deliver on his campaign promises.

The Speaker, who was speaking at the second edition of the Media parley hosted by the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners, ASKOMP, stated this while responding to a question on the agitation for power shift to Kwara North senatorial district by 2023.

Danladi, who led some members of the Kwara State House of Assembly to the event which held at Crystal House Hall in Ilorin, condemned what he described as the early politicking around 2023, noting that “nobody can guarantee what will happen tomorrow.”

He said, ” I think it’s too early to start discussing 2023 General Elections. Let’s focus on fulfilling our campaign promises and deliver dividends of democracy to people across the 16 local government areas. Nobody can guarantee what will happen tomorrow, so why are we disturbing ourselves about power shift or 2023 elections. Let’s use this four years for the betterment of our people and the state at large.”

Speaking on the performance of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq so far, Danladi described the governor as Godsent and a focused leader who meant well for Kwara state.

He said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has implemented projects in every local government areas of the State within 24 months, saying “you can point to projects implemented by Abdulrazaq-led administration. The governor has touched all the sectors positively.”

The Speaker also hailed Abdulrazaq for the social investment programme for the vulnerable people in the society and the assistance delivered ti market men/women, including youth to boost their businesses, adding that the Innovation Hub and Visual Arts Gallery will create opportunities for the young entrepreneurs and upcoming generation to be self reliant.

The Speaker, while commenting on youth agitations on issues, said it would be a better approach for young people to always adopt democratic approach in demanding for their rights. While also urging Nigerian youths to be civil and cultured while pressing for the actualization of their rights, the lawmaker encouraged more young people to show interest and play active roles in politics.

Danladi said the 9th Assembly has been participating actively in the process of preparing budget for the State by attending town hall meetings, thereby giving the legislatures the opportunity to have inputs into what goes to their respective constituencies. He also spoke on the good relationship between the legislative and executive arms in the State, stating that the cordial relationship between the two arms of government is in the best interest of Kwara State.

”We are partners in progress! We don’t need to create unnecessary crisis due to the criticisms of detractors. The 9th Assembly will continue to work with the executive to move the State forward. The synergy is for public good and we shall maintain that approach,” He said.

The trained engineer turned politician lauded his colleagues for facilitating and executing projects in their constituencies, saying such has bettered the lots of the citizenry.

Speaking on insecurity bedeviling the country, the Speaker charged citizens to always avail security agencies with first hand information that would help them to nib insecurity in the bud. He also called on the media to strengthen its relationship with security agencies to facilitate the exchange of information in order to stem the tide of insecurity in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), Salihu Shola Taofeek commended the Speaker for attending the interactive session with journalists in commemoration of the 9th Assembly second year anniversary.

Taofeek, who is also the Publisher of Informant247 said the association was established to sanitize online media space, build capacity of members and prevent the spread of fake news.

Members of the association at the parley include Informant247, FreshInsight, Justevent, FactualTimes, Insider NG, SATCOM, Shopen, Symbol news, 9japarrot, Spiceygist, Studio614, Factzone, Intercontinental News, RoyalTimes, CityPulse, Goldennews and some journalists from traditional media outfits.
