Turaki of Ilorin, Mallam Saliu Mustapha has, through his Non-Governmental Organization, The Saliu Mustapha Foundation doled out over 200 million naira to about 600 beneficiaries in one of the biggest empowerment program ever in Kwara State.
The Foundation, during the 10th edition of the annual SME and grassroots empowerment programs, gave out financial support to youth and women entrepreneurs who are small and medium scale business owners.
According to the founder of the Foundation, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, the empowerment program was meant to eradicate poverty in the society.
At the event, which held on Saturday at Kwara State Banquet Hall in Ilorin, a community development practitioner and guest speaker, Mallam Muhammed Lawal Olohungbebe In his sermon maintained that an individual who is not useful to the society before getting a political position will not be useful after attaining the post, adding that a society that does not have someone like Salihu Mustapha who always cares for the people’s development will be wallowing in poverty.
“Your not being rich or educated does not render you useless to your people,” Olohungbebe admonished.
The guest speaker urged Mallam Saliu Mustapha not to relent in rendering help to the needy, saying Ilorin people are not known to be integrates.
Also speaking, other Islamic clerics, Ustaz Lukman Isale-Koto and Sheik Faruq Sohibul Bayan in their sermon commended Saliu Mustapha for his philanthropic activities, saying his kinds are rare.
Mallam Saliu Mustapha, who urged beneficiaries to make use of the money given to them wisely and for the purpose meant for, expressed the hope that the gesture would help improve the businesses of the recipients.
The event, which coincides with the 82nd birthday of the Emir of Ilorin, saw the philanthropist cum politician praying for more strength and good health for the revered monarch.
In his remark, the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq lauded the Turaki of Ilorin for his benevolent acts and his efforts toward enriching the people of the State
The event was graced by APC stalwarts, including the party chairman in the State, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, elder Statesmen, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, among others.
