Development Economist and Author, Seun Awogbenle, has congratulated Dr Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, on her appointment and confirmation by the Senate, as Nigeria’s Minister for Youth Development.
In a statement in London, on Wednesday, Awogbenle described the appointment of Dr Jamila, as a “round peg in a round hole”, adding that her confirmation is a demonstration that there is nothing within Nigeria’s political leadership that is beyond the grasp of young people.
“I congratulate Dr Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, on her nomination and confirmation by the Senate, as the Minister for Youth Development. The confirmation is no doubt a testament to Dr Jamila’s pedigree, as an astute physician and development enthusiast of many years, with visible impact in the polity of Kwara and Nigeria.
“From her leadership of the progressive young women forum to championing several other women-led initiatives within Nigeria’s ruling party, there is no doubt that Dr Jamila’s appointment is a refreshing departure from the past – a motivation for women and girls and a major step forward towards achieving inclusion and ending inequality.
“Dr Jamila’s confirmation is therefore a shared victory for all Kwarans especially our young people, and I have no doubt that all Kwarans of good conscience irrespective of persuasion, would rally Dr Jamila to ensure her great success in this new capacity.”
“I wish Dr Jamila, very rewarding and beneficial tenure and look forward to the impact she would make in her new capacity. I am confident that she will make the young people of Kwara State proud.”
