Senator Dino Melaye has been sacked as the senator representing Kogi West district in the 9th Senate by the Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly Election Tribunal.
The tribunal in its ruling today, ordered a fresh election in the district.
Recall that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 26 election, Senator Smart Adeyemi, had challenged Melaye’s victory at the tribunal, citing cases of irregularities, including over-voting and non-compliance with the electoral act.
However, in his reaction, Senator Melaye maintained there was no cause for alarm while reiterating his ‘imminent’ victory at the Kogi governorship election slated to hold later in the year.
He tweeted: “On Tribunal judgement. No cause 4 alarm at all. Even if it went my way they will still go to the Appeal Court. Our mandate can not be taken. We will get judgment at the Appeal Court. There will be a fresh election in Kogi West bc I will be Governor. For my Senate mandate no shaking.”
