Operatives of Operation Thunder Strike have rescued six abducted Offa travelers who were whisked away by their captors on Saturday, along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway on their way to Kaduna.
It was earlier reported that the six abducted victims were Kwarans.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State had called on the police to intensify efforts in facilitating their release.
“We urge the police and other security agencies to do everything possible to free these citizens as soon as possible. We call on the criminals behind the dastardly act to immediately and unconditionally release our people in their custody,” the governor said in a statement by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye.
Confirming their release, the Offa Descendants’ Union, ODU, through a statement by its National Public Relations Officer, Maruf Olalekan Ajenifuja said: “The Offa Descendants’ Union, (ODU) wishes to inform you all that the six (6) kidnapped victims at Rijana, along Kaduna-Abuja high way on Saturday 7th 2019 have been rescued from their abductors.
“ODU hereby appreciates the intervention of the Kwara state government, Kaduna state government, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Military, Civil Society Organizations, NURTW, the media and the general public in the course of this episode.”
