The aggrieved chairmen of the sixteen local government councils in Kwara State have rebuffed their suspension by the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who obliged the State Assembly’s recommendation for their temporary removal on account of misappropriation.
Responding to the governor’s decree, announcing the six months suspension of local government executive councils and legislative committees, pending the outcome of investigations, Honourable Yinka Dallas (Chairman, Ekiti local government area) chastened the decision as baseless and contrary to the provisions of the law.
He decried the hasty process of their suspension, despite an injunction from the Federal High Court barring their removal until expiration of their tenure in November 2020, stressing that the embattled chairmen were neither queried nor given a fair hearing.
Mr Dallas further disclosed that the chairmen, who are all of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were in the process of contesting their suspension in court.
