Alhaji Bello Mutawallen-Maradun, the new governor of Zamfara state has indicated his willingness to reinstate the 1,400 workers who were employed by the immediate past Governor of the state, Abdul’aziz Yari.
Governor Bello made the announcement today (Wednesday) while delivering his inaugural address as the new governor of the state with his deputy, Mr Mahdi Aliyu Gusau.
According to an earlier report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the affected workers, who were recruited by the state Civil Service Commission in May 2014, are already owed over 60 months salary before they were retrenched.
Gov. Matawallen-Maradun however said the affected workers were recruited in line with civil service rules and regulations and therefore could not be made to suffer unjustly.
“This administration will reinstate them. We are going to set up a committee to verify them and put them into the state core civil service, except those who secured another job,’’ the governor said.
Among other promises, the new governor pledged to provide meaningful development for the state and to tackle youth unemployment. He therefore appealed to the people to support and cooperate with his government to enable it deliver on its campaign promises.
