The Senate of the University of Abuja has appointed Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, a professor of International Law and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University. The announcement followed her nomination at the valedictory Senate meeting held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, on the main campus.
According to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, Maikudi’s appointment is temporary, effective after his tenure ends, pending ratification by the Governing Council. Na’Allah’s five-year tenure concludes on June 30, 2024.
Prof Maikudi was born on January 31, 1983, in Zaria, Kaduna State, and hails from Katsina State. She began her academic journey at Queens College, Lagos, where she obtained her WASSCE certificate. She then pursued her higher education in the United Kingdom, earning an LLB from the University of Reading and an LLM from the London School of Economics.
The renowned Law Professor furthered her legal studies at the Nigeria Law School in Abuja, leading to her call to the Bar. She also achieved a remarkable milestone by obtaining her PhD in Law from the University of Abuja, showcasing her dedication to academic excellence.
The acting Vice-Chancellor began her academic career at the University of Abuja in 2008 as a Lecturer. She made history by becoming the first female and youngest Head of the Department in the Faculty of Law in 2014. She continued to break barriers by becoming the first female and youngest Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and later the DVC academics in 2023.
