Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has given approval for the computation and compilation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Kwara State. As stated by the Kwara State Ministry of Communications, this exercise will be the first since the state’s creation in 1967 and will be conducted in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
“The State Bureau of Statistics has obtained approval from His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to conduct a groundbreaking exercise – the first-ever computation and compilation of Kwara State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) since its inception in 1967,” the Ministry of Communications announced in a statement.
Meanwhile, the State Bureau of Statistics has announced a stakeholders’ sensitization program on the computation and compilation of Kwara State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the State Banquet Hall in Ilorin.
This groundbreaking exercise, set to begin on July 13, 2024, aims to drive growth and development in the state. The bureau urges all sectors, public and private, to cooperate with the data collection team, emphasizing the exercise’s significance for the state’s progress.
Reacting to this development, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim, Pioneer Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Statistics, hailed the exercise as a historic milestone, noting that Kwara State has never conducted a GDP exercise since its creation in 1967. Despite a rebased GDP exercise in 2011/2012, the state failed to pay the required counterpart funds, relying on UN estimates instead. Ibrahim expressed his delight at the exercise’s commencement, having long advocated for it.
