Legendary Nigerian Singer Onyeka Onwenu Dies at 72

Renowned singer, actress, and human rights advocate Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72. The renowned songwriter passed away on Tuesday shortly after performing at a birthday party in Lagos.
Onwenu’s life was a testament to her passion for the arts, social justice, and women empowerment. With a career spanning multiple fields, she inspired generations with her elegant presence, theatre, and soulful music. She addressed critical social issues through her art, earning her the nickname “Elegant Stallion.”
Her musical career, as seen her, released several albums, including “For the Sake of Love” and “One Love.” She is known for her soulful voice and hit songs like “Ekwe” and “Iyogogo.” She has also appeared in numerous Nollywood films, including “The Wedding Party” and “Half of a Yellow Sun.”
Onwenu has received numerous awards for her contributions to the arts and social justice, including the Nigerian National Order of Merit Award.
