In a bid to alleviate the burden of food inflation on Nigerians, the Federal Government has announced the suspension of import duties and taxes on certain essential food items. This move aims to make these items more affordable for citizens and reduce hunger.
Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this measure, which is part of the government’s efforts to address the nation’s food inflation. The suspension of import duties and taxes will seamlessly reduce the financial burden on Nigerians, making food more accessible.
“The Nigeria Customs Service has introduced reforms to facilitate the efficient movement of Nigerian goods to international markets. These reforms include advanced ruling systems, authorized economic operators, and a time-release study, which will provide farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs with a faster path to global markets.
The government’s commitment to addressing hunger and stimulating economic growth is evident in these initiatives. Additionally, the NCS is intensifying efforts to combat the proliferation of arms and dangerous weapons, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for Nigerians.”
With these measures in place, the government is optimistic that the country can overcome current challenges and build a brighter future.
