Kwara Court Restricts Protest Venue to Metropolitan Square

A Kwara State Court has ordered organizers of the August 1 protest to limit their gathering to the Metropolitan Square in Ilorin, citing concerns of potential violence.

The court granted an exparte order on July 31, 2024, agreeing with the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, that unrestricted protests could lead to violence.

The order, signed by Chief Magistrate Jibril Bio Salihu, restrains protesters from converging or conducting rallies in any location other than the designated Metropolitan Square for a period of 7 days, effective August 1, 2024.

The court also directed security agencies to provide adequate protection for lives, properties, and infrastructure during the protest period.

The respondents, including the Take-It-Back Movement and unknown persons, are expected to be served with court processes by pasting them at the High Court premises.

The case has been adjourned to August 14, 2024, for further hearings.
