Kwara PDP Condemns Gov AbdulRazaq, KWSIEC for Violating Electoral Laws

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticized Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) for violating state electoral laws ahead of the September 21 local government elections.

The party has urged KWSIEC to comply with a recent court order restraining it from proceeding with the elections, citing irregularities in the electoral process. A Federal High Court in Abuja had restrained INEC from releasing the National Voter Register to KWSIEC, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by PDP.

Press Officer on Local Matters to former SenatePresident, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, accused KWSIEC of deliberately violating the rules, including refusing to follow the timeline for the election as stipulated by law. He emphasized that PDP is ready for the election, but insisted that KWSIEC must follow the laid-down rules and regulations.

Abdulqadir commended the Supreme Court’s ruling granting financial autonomy to local governments, which he believes will enhance grassroots development and promote true democracy. He criticized the state government’s handling of local government funds, calling for accountability and transparency.

The PDP has expressed its readiness to take control of local governance and “rescue Kwara from the hands of incompetent political officeholders” put in place by Governor AbdulRazaq.
