Issa Hayatou, the former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has passed away at the age of 77. Hayatou led CAF from 1988 to 2017, leaving an indelible mark on African football.
In a statement, current CAF President Motsepe expressed his condolences and announced that the CAF flag and the flags of all CAF Member Associations will fly at half-mast for a period of five days, until August 13, 2024, in honor of the deceased.
Hayatou’s legacy in African football is immense, having served as CAF President for nearly three decades. He played a crucial role in shaping the continent’s football landscape and was instrumental in the development of various CAF competitions.
The football fraternity across Africa and beyond is mourning the loss of a legendary figure, and tributes are pouring in from various stakeholders. Hayatou’s contributions to African football will be remembered for generations to come.
