In a bold move to transform Abuja’s transportation landscape, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to construct Nigeria’s first underground rail line, connecting the Abuja Metro Station to the Central Business District Bus Terminal.

The project, aimed at elevating Abuja’s transportation infrastructure to global standards, features an underground rail line, a state-of-the-art bus terminal, and integrated road infrastructure. The initiative seeks to reduce traffic congestion, enhance public transport, and improve city security.

According to Mandate Secretary for Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi, the underground rail line will run eight meters below the surface, connecting the Metro Station to the CBD Bus Terminal, with a station linking the two.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized the importance of integrating road infrastructure with bus terminals to achieve effective transportation solutions. The completed terminal will boast amenities like restaurants and relaxation areas, fully integrated with Abuja’s expanding road network for seamless connectivity.

The administration is committed to transforming Abuja’s transport system, with support from President Bola Tinubu. Two additional bus terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo are also under construction, reflecting the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve the city’s transportation framework.

This comprehensive approach aims to create a safer, more efficient, and stress-free travel experience for commuters, cementing Abuja’s position as a world-class city.
