Nigeria’s Youth Minister Olawande Vacates Seat for 17-Year-Old Girl

In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child 2024, Minister of State for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, vacated his seat for 17-year-old Esther Adesioye to serve as one-day Minister of State for Youth Development.

Adesioye, a 100L Law student at the University of Abuja, emerged winner of the IDG Essay Competition, earning her the honour.

Olawande congratulated Adesioye, hoping her achievement inspires other young girls to pursue excellence. The Minister said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration aims to empower girls and promote gender equality.

Adesioye thanked Olawande and the Ministry, pledging to strive for excellence and be a role model.

She also sought support for her PAD-A-GIRL project, providing sanitary pads to female students who miss school due to menstrual cycle-related issues.
