A 46-year-old Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was tragically killed in the Agege area of Lagos on Saturday. The officer, whose name has not been disclosed, was leading a team to an accident scene at WEMCO junction when he came under attack by commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders).

The incident began when a truck collided with an Okada rider, who sadly died. Police arrived to evacuate the truck but were met with resistance from the riders, who demanded the truck be set on fire. Despite preliminary investigations revealing the rider was at fault, the situation escalated, resulting in the ASP’s fatal injury.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin condemned the “unprovoked” attack. Five suspects have been arrested, with a manhunt underway for others involved.
