President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff, according to a statement released by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga. This move comes as Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the substantive Chief of Army Staff, is currently receiving medical treatment abroad.
Oluyede, 56, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army in Jaji, Kaduna. Notably, he and Lagbaja were coursemates at the Nigerian Defence Academy, as part of the 39th Regular Course.
Oluyede’s appointment is effective immediately, and he will hold the position until Lagbaja’s return. Oluyede’s experience is expected to provide stability and continuity in the Army’s leadership.
