The Zero Tolerance for Social Immoralities Initiative (ZETSI) Africa held its first annual convention yesterday at the NBA Conference Hall, State High Court, Ilorin, Kwara State. The event, themed “Harmony in the Heartland: Promoting Peace and Rejecting Cultism and Drug Abuse in Kwara State,” brought together stakeholders from various sectors to address pressing social issues plaguing the state and the nation at large.
Amb. Razak Jeje (HRA), Chairperson of ZETSI Africa, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to eradicating social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, corruption, examination malpractice, prostitution, and cybercrime. He highlighted the devastating impact of these issues on youths and communities, calling for collective action to create a safer and more harmonious society.
“The senseless cultist clashes and rampant drug abuse in our society have led to killings, mental instability, and the loss of promising young lives,” Amb. Jeje stated. “We must work together to tackle these challenges head-on and ensure a sustainable future for our youths.”
The convention featured panel discussions, presentations, debate among selected secondary schools and the launch of ZETSI Africa’s Moral Compass magazine, a publication aimed at promoting positive values and providing guidance for young people. The event also recognized individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to combating social vices, with awards presented to deserving honorees.
In a significant announcement, Amb. Jeje revealed the appointment of a new team of Administrative Volunteers to drive ZETSI Africa’s initiatives at the grassroots level. The team, which includes Bamigboye Olalekan as State Coordinator and Aliyu Aneefah Gold as Secretary, will serve for a one-year term, focusing on expanding the organization’s reach across campuses and communities.
Looking ahead, ZETSI Africa plans to host similar conventions in all 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of its 2025 strategic goals. “We are kicking off from Kwara State, the State of Harmony, and we urge our officials to prepare for our arrival in their respective states,” Amb. Jeje declared.
The Chairperson also condemned corruption, describing it as a systemic issue that hampers the optimal functioning of every sector in Nigeria. He called for decisive action to eradicate all forms of social vices, urging stakeholders to remain steadfast in their commitment to creating a better world for future generations.
The convention concluded with a call to action, as Amb. Jeje expressed gratitude to participants for their support and urged continued collaboration in the fight against social immoralities. “Together, we can achieve greatness,” he said, rallying attendees to uphold the values of peace, harmony, and progress.
