The Sokoto State Government has unveiled a N1 billion subsidized food initiative aimed at providing affordable essential goods to civil servants and low-income residents across six local government areas in the state. The program is designed to alleviate economic challenges and ensure access to basic necessities for vulnerable populations.

Mr. Dadi-Adare, a key official involved in the initiative, stressed the importance of transparency and strict adherence to guidelines to ensure the program’s success and long-term sustainability. He highlighted that the pilot phase will initially cover six local government areas: Dange Shuni, Wamakko, Bodinga, Kware, Sokoto North, and Sokoto South, with plans to expand to other regions in the future.
Under the program, eligible civil servants will be able to purchase goods worth up to 30% of their monthly salary, capped at N15,000. Mr. Dattijo, another official, explained that a consultant has been engaged to manage the program’s online platforms, oversee the issuance of credit cards, facilitate payment processing, and conduct biometric registrations to ensure smooth operations.
He also confirmed that participating stores are fully stocked and ready to begin sales soon. “Only registered individuals will be permitted to purchase the subsidized items, and deductions will be made directly from workers’ salaries through the Ministry of Finance,” he stated.
