In a shocking upset, two-time former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua suffered a brutal fifth-round knockout at the hands of fellow British boxer Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Joshua, 34, of Nigerian heritage, was knocked down four times before the referee stopped the fight, marking his fourth professional defeat. This loss snapped his four-fight win streak, which followed his consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, where he lost his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.
Despite the devastating defeat, Joshua remains committed to his boxing career. “Of course, I want to continue fighting,” he declared in the post-fight press conference. “I’m not going to run away.”
Joshua’s determination to continue fighting has sparked speculation about potential future matchups. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, expressed support for Joshua’s decision, stating, “Anthony’s still a top-level heavyweight, and we’ll regroup and plan the next move.”
The victory propelled Dubois to the forefront of the heavyweight division, with many calling for a potential title shot against the current champions.
