I hope you know that I don’t do this every day. But I cherish the few moments I do. I also hope you know that every time I do, I’m always short of words. I just pick up my phone, open a new page in notes, and pound the keys. The feeling never changes; it’s always like opening a new page in our lives.
Moments like this present an opportunity to celebrate you in the public glare, to thank you for all you do, and to profess afresh, how I feel about us. It’s awe-inspiring to be your man as you attain the fourth decade and celebrate your 40th birthday. Your birthday is exceptional to me because the day you were born represents the delivery of a personal gift from above. It’s also significant because it bestowed on you, the channel through which our children journeyed to the world. Thus, our celebration is for multiple reasons.
Today marks another milestone in our lives and I thank God for the gift of you. Even at 40, you portray the appearance of a sweet younger woman, even when your deeds, maturity, sacrifices, and wisdom are that of someone older. I cannot thank God enough for making you my wife and the mother of our beautiful children. You reinforce my strengths and neutralize my weaknesses.
Thank you for accepting me the way I am and for tending to the children tirelessly when I gallivant about in search of a better life for the family. You are the first to rise from bed, care for the kids all through, yet the one to ensure they are in bed. You work to support the family and still there to keep the house clean, organized, and habitable. In all, you still make up generous time to make our ‘private sessions’ worthwhile in the other room. Where you get the strength, I do not know.
Today, I want you to know that you add a breath of fresh air and a ray of sunshine to this day-to-day routine that we call life. And this makes me a better man when I venture out daily and a happy man when it’s time to return home.
That you agreed to walk the eternal route of life with me, damning all consequences, was one of my greatest blessings in life. Funny enough, just when I think I’ve loved you enough – and impossible to love you any more than I already do – you prove me wrong.
As you celebrate your day today, #ABIKE, the children and I say a heartfelt “Thank You” to you. We celebrate the priceless motherhood in you which has kept the family blooming in love, joy, and prosperity. We pray that Allah in His infinite mercy grants you long life in sound health and abundance. We also pray that you continue to be a shining light to our families, acquaintances, and the world.
As this 40th birth anniversary heralds a new horizon in your journey of life, I pledge to travel with you on this life expedition, to weather the storm and relish the sweet moments. I pledge to be that shoulder to lean on when you appear weak and those ears to when you need one to listen.
